Cuffed vs slouch vs pom beanies: which to order
Three knit shapes cover almost every custom beanie order. The cuffed beanie is the default. Slouch and cuffless styles fit a streetwear look. Pom beanies are for retail, resorts and schools. Here is how Battle Born Clothing sees each one from the decorating side.
Cuffed beanies
A cuffed beanie has a folded band about 3 inches tall around the brow. That band is the logo field: roughly 3.5 inches wide by 1.75 inches tall for embroidery, or a 2.5 to 3 inch patch. The double layer of knit at the cuff gives the stitches or the patch a stable base, which is why cuffed beanies decorate the cleanest. Blanks: Sportsman SP12, SP12FL, SP12SL, SP90; YP Classics 1501KC; Richardson 149; Port & Company CP90; Decky 613; Carhartt CT104597.
Who orders cuffed
- Crews and companies (the logo is visible, the hat is warm, the price is low).
- Breweries and outfitters (a leather patch sits on the cuff).
- Anyone ordering 100 or more, because the SP12 is the lowest all-in price we publish.
Slouch and cuffless beanies
A slouch beanie is longer and worn loose at the back. A cuffless beanie (watch cap, fisherman beanie) is short and snug with no fold. Both put the logo on a single layer of knit above the brow, so designs are smaller (about 3 inches wide) and simpler. Blanks: YP Classics 1500KC (short cuffless), Decky 608 and 600 watch caps. A true long slouch is quoted on request.
Who orders slouch and cuffless
- Streetwear, coffee and lifestyle brands.
- Gyms and run clubs.
- Buyers who want a fitted look rather than a fold.
Pom beanies
A pom beanie is a cuffed beanie with a pom-pom on top. It decorates exactly like a cuffed beanie; the pom just changes who it is for. Blanks: Sportsman SP15 (solid pom), SP60 (striped pom), Decky 686. Poms are factory-attached and come in the body color or a contrast; we cannot add or remove them.
Who orders pom
- Ski and snow resorts (retail and ski school).
- Schools and booster clubs (spirit wear sells better with a pom).
- Holiday gift runs where the hat should look like a gift.

| Pom | Same as cuffed | Embroidery or patch | Quoted | Resorts, schools, gifts |
Our recommendation
If you are not sure, order cuffed. It takes the biggest logo, costs the least and fits the most heads. Go pom when the beanie is sold or gifted. Go cuffless when the brand look calls for it and the logo is simple. Mixed styles in one order are fine; with the same logo, every style counts toward the same price break and only the blank cost differs. Battle Born Clothing will show the logo at size on each style on the proof.
What each style costs, worked out
Decoration is the same on all three shapes, so the only difference is the blank. For the cuffed Sportsman SP12 we publish the number: 48 beanies with an embroidered cuff logo is 48 × $12.10 = $580.80 plus $18.99 digitizing, $599.79. For a pom (SP15) or cuffless (YP 1500KC) order of the same size, the embroidery is still $6.50 each and $18.99 once; the blank is quoted at current supplier cost on the day you ask. Leather patch at 48 is $7.00 each on any of the three with no setup fee.
Lined versions of each
Cuffed beanies come fleece-lined (Sportsman SP12FL, Port & Company CP91L) and sherpa-lined (SP12SL). Pom and cuffless styles are mostly unlined. If the beanie is daily winter gear for a crew, a lined cuffed beanie is the right call; if it is a gift or retail item, lining is optional and the pom or chunky knit does more for the look.
Questions
Can one order mix cuffed and pom beanies?
Yes. Each style is priced at its own quantity tier, and the same digitized logo serves both since the cuff is the same.
Do slouch beanies take a leather patch?
They can, but the single layer of knit flexes more. We keep the patch small and sample-press first. Cuffed is the better base for a patch.
Are pom beanies more expensive to decorate?
No. Decoration prices are the same. Only the blank costs more.
